Litte Grannie has been at the lot for months now gaining weight. She came in a rack of bones and actually has gained a lot of weight. Her knees are bad and have arthritis but she gets along just fine and is sweet with the other horses, but mostly keeps to herself. She is about 14hh and looks like a worn out teddy bear that was once loved and now discarded. Grannie is seeking a nice retirement home to live out her days as a pasture pet. Please do not ask me if she is broke because her knees are worn out enough and do not need the added weight of a rider. She would benefit from some good nutrition, TLC, joint supplements, and of course, love.

Ladies and Gents at the WA Feedlot

Dumping older horses at an auction and thus entering them into feedlots and slaughterpipeline makes my blood boil. For gods sake people, have some respect for your elders, be it two legged or four. These ladies and gents don't deserve this. All we can do is post and spread the news. They are too far away from us and we are currently over booked (and turning seniors away).

Alden is a senior who was said to have been used to give wagon rides. He is in need of some groceries, but otherwise looks like he is in overall decent shape for his age. He stands approx 15hh and didn't have any visible issues that I saw besides needing to get up to weight. He did not appear to have any problems eating hay and was up and eating with the rest of the horses at the feed bunk. He is gentle on the ground and deserves a nice retirement or lighter use home.

I wasn't going to list these horses but I just can't help it. They deserve so much better than the fate they are being handed. These are all from the Washington feedlot and the only thing we can do is share their story and their pictures. I'd love to take in these deserving horses but we are turning them away as it is. Valerina - 11yr Gray Arabian Mare - $400 Valerina is said to be in foal by her previous owner. She is easy to handle, loves attention, and followed me around wanting to be friends. She looks to be in okay condition but could use some good nutrition. I don't know if she is broke to ride but she is at least halter broke and quite cute. Villager - 20yr Chestnut Gelding - $500 Villager is a very sweet and easy going gelding who aims to please. He appears to be a been there done that gelding who is said to be 20 years old, and confirmed by looking at his teeth. He is easy to handle, tolerates weight, and does what is asked of him. I don't have any history on him besides an age from the previous owner, but I would be very surprised if he was not broke. Villager stands approx 15'2hh and has been gaining weight at the lot. Visa Vi - 17yr Bay Roan Blanket Nez Perce Mare - $500 Visa Vi is a beautiful stoutly built mare who was most likely used as broodmare. She has a medium build I am guessing she stands approx 14'2hh. She was easy to handle and looks to be in overall good condition with no issues that I could find. Her hooves looked good from what I could see, and pictures do not do her justice. Vienne - 28yr Bay Blanket Appaloosa Mare - $400 Vienne is a senior foundation Appaloosa mare who has been previously used as a broodmare for Nez Perce horses. She is easy to handle, loving, and gentle on the ground. She is living history and this grand old mare deserves a retirement. Her hooves are in good condition and I saw no issues with her eyes, or signs of uveitis. Vianka - 30yr Leopard Appaloosa Mare - $450 This senior mare should be as foundation as Appaloosas come. She is friendly, easy to handle, and looks to be in decent condition for her age. I don't have an exact age, but was told she is one of the seniors around 30 years old. She has been used as a broodmare to produce Nez Perce horses. Her hooves are in good condition and she is gaining weight at the lot. Her eyes appear to be good and besides age and needing some weight, I couldn't find any issues. She's a nice mare and a piece of living history. Nacy is said to be broke to ride but for an experienced rider or confident older kid, is what was said, and suggested she have a tune up. She was purchased to be a broodmare but the previous owner could not find papers so she was taken to auction. She is a very nice mare and is in good body condition but is "moon blind" in one eye. In my opinion, it looks like untreated uveitis. She was sold sound and I saw no issues with her movement. She is a nice gentle mare who is easy to handle and stands approx 14'3hh.

Ratatouille came in as part of a team that was said to be broke to ride and drive. I have not seen him ridden and do not know how broke he is. I couldn't get an age on him but would guess at least teens. He will warm up to you and is friendly, but did not let me see his teeth. He looks to be in decent condition and has gained weight since these pictures were taken. He's a nice mule overall and I would guess him to be approx 14'2-3hh.

Rachelle is an absolute doll with the sweetest personality. She was easy going, let me do anything to her, picked up her feet, tolerated weight, and wanted to follow me around. This mare stands approx 14'1-2hh but has a nice solid build and what looked like good hooves. She was saddled up and was supposed to be ridden through the sale but was not because they didn't want to ride her over a moving scale. I would guess she is broke from her mannerisms and she definitely was easy to handle and had a very willing personality. She stood by herself mostly but was fine with the other horses, but seemed low in the pecking order. I really like this mare and think she will make a great partner for someone.
