The neighbor's poor mare. I feel so bad for her. She was supposed to foal last month but it's been over a month now and still no baby. The neighbor had her vet come out last night and he suspects that the baby is stillborn. I wasn't around to get all the details. If it is stillborn, we'll probably not have the mare at our place for very much longer.
In happier news, the weather is gorgeous! I took advantage of the warmer weather Friday night and filled water tanks before it started raining and the temps dropped. Saturday morning was a little weird for weather. We drove in the Hartford to deposit the money from the SD Horse Fair raffle and the Easter Fundraiser (thank you everyone!). When we drove into Hartford, the skies were clear but when we drove back home, we were met with fog and dreariness. Luckily the fog didn't stay for very much longer.
I was able to sneak out for about two hours this afternoon. I groomed a few of the horses in the big herd (those that wandered up to me while I had brush in hand). I decided I didn't want to waste the nice weather so I pulled Jim out and went for a short ride. He was full of himself today and didn't let his age get the better of him. I also worked with Maverick for a little bit. I definitely need to work with the horses more.
