Ramblings

As much as I don’t like losing an hour of precious sleep (even more precious now that we have an infant and I only get about five hours of sleep every night), I do like daylight savings time. Of course this morning I wasn’t exactly pleased with the weather and being out in such frigid temperatures so early in the morning (and in the dark).  But it was worth it on my drive in to work. I love the pre-dawn lightshow. It’s not something I would get to experience otherwise if I didn’t have to get up so early. I also love the extra time at night although we’ve been so wrapped up in family activities, SD Horse Fair, and prepping for this Saturday’s fundraiser, that I haven’t gotten out to do chores until after the sun has already set.
Last night I made quick work of chores. We ran to Pipestone, MN to meet the winner of the boot rack (she met us half way). Unfortunately I didn’t think to get any pictures. It was so cold and windy I thought it best if we both got back into our vehicles were it was warm. It’s so nice to meet new horse people and who believe in our cause. To hear other people’s stories of their own rescues is heart-warming. Rescuing isn’t always about saving them all but saving one.
It’s been fairly quiet with the horses at Borderlands lately (knock on wood). I think the horses are starting to get bored. I need to spend some time with them just hanging out. I also need to come up with something to keep them entertained. Hopefully after this weekend I can come up with a few things.  I’ll be glad when the temps finally go back to normal and get out of these freezing temps. I don’t like wind chills below zero!
The neighbor’s mare still hasn’t had her foal. I was sure she would have popped by now. The poor girl is starting to show it too. She keeps getting bigger and bigger. I feel so bad for her (more so because I know exactly what she’s going through!) She’s such a sweetheart but she’s starting to get crabby which makes me think her time is coming soon. I’d love to be there when she foals but I doubt that’ll happen. She goes in ever night to hang out in the barn in hopes that she’ll have the baby. I think she’s turned into a barn babe. I do like having horses that prefer a stall over the great outdoors. Not sure why but it makes me think it’s one thing I can do to make them happy.
