Shot Day

Today has been a super long day. It's 11pm and I'm still waiting to finish up some house work before heading to bed. Today we had some family quality time. I love to surround myself with family as they play a huge part in Borderlands. I don't think I could take care of the day-to-day activities without their help.

After we returned from visiting, I decided that May 1st would be an easy way to track vacinations and deworming. So I started haltering everyone up. I had to do some quick thinking to make sure that I had enough lead ropes for everyone. Thanks to D and M, I have plenty of halters for each horse. I started running out of room to tie each horse, so I left a couple in the barn.

Everyone except Bo and Rabbit behaved while getting their shots. Poor Bo went completely psychotic when he saw the needle. Who knows what he's gone through before. Luckily Mike was around when I went to work on Bo. Otherwise, I'm sure it would have taken me much longer. Rabbit was a handful also. I think she's gotten away with a number of things and knows how to get her away. I'm stubborn so we had a bit of a disagreement. Of course I won.

I didn't give Savanna or Sahara any shots yet. I have Mayhem's booster shot that I'll most likely give to Savanna. I still need to gentle Sahara enough so that I can touch her. Mayhem was an absolute doll. She was the easiest of everyone. It was her first time ever getting shots and she stood like a princess. She really is something special.

While I was giving everyone shots, I decided it would be a wise idea to deworm everyone too. Unfortunately I didn't have enough to get me through everyone. I had to skip Sam, Thor, Savanna, and Sahara. I was too tired to go back and take care of Bo and it was getting dark. I'll give Bo a dose of Panacure tomorrow while I do chores.

Babe's old owner, Stacy A., came out on Saturday to trim her feet. We had to coax Babe to stand still with grain. For being a blind horse, she likes to get around and wander. I'm just happy that we were able to get it done. Thank you so much Stacy A. for being such a wonderful and caring owner. I wish there were more owners like you who cared for their horses and are willing to do the right thing by their horse. It's refreshing and brightens my day.

This week is going to be jammed packed. I am hoping to do some more pen swapping. Bo is just too hard on the mares. I don't think Bo is to the right weight yet but because he's too hard on Babe, I think it's time to introduce Bo into the big herd. We'll see how it goes. I had planned on doing it tonight but was too tired.

We fought 40mph wind all weekend and I couldn't bear to deal with any more drama. I'd only gotten a few hours of sleep last night thanks to the shingles on the house banging and flapping on the roof all night. I'm hoping to get him out tomorrow.

I am going to give Sahara a few more weeks but I am contimplating all possibilities with her. She is spending a large amount of time laying down. I know for a face that her leg is bothering her. I am considering her quality of life. I don't want to make any rash decisions but sometime this month I'll have to decide exactly what to do.

I can't believe that it's already May 1st. I only hope that this month will be better than the last two months. I'm not sure I can handle a third straight month in a row with Murphy visiting. Keep your fingers crossed that May is a better month than April.

I'm not sure how much blogging I'll get to do this week. As long as there aren't 40 mph gusts of wind, I'll hopefully be outside playing with the horses. But it's after 11pm and I think bed is callign my name. The housework can wait until another day.
